Summer 2007
We had three weekend youth programs scheduled, free to at-risk kids. Due to our reorganization this summer (newsletter), these were combined into a single 14-hour program in July. This included home-made cinnamon rolls, morning chapel, swimming, horseback riding (rained out), skating, crafts, Monster Bus rides, character-building classes, Cici's pizza, evening chapel, ranch-style cookout, and ended with a country hay-ride.
Summer 2006
Our first expedition was a great success. Thanks to a wonderful crew of training Rangers, and many other helpers with meals, security, crafts, and games.
We also owe a special thanks to some local restaurants and businesses who provided food, some free meals, supplies, and financial support. God used this group of businesses and managers to make this even possible. Without these people, our summer program would not have been possible.
We had 47 in the bunkhouses, tremendous guest speakers, and 21 decisions (12 of which were for salvation). Thorntree Baptist Church really rallied around the program and saw God greatly move in the hearts of the kids to adults.
Here are the programs we caught on film:
One of our visions for our summer camp program is to provide a totally free camp for as many "at risk" young people as we can legally put on a bus. In compliance with our USDOT classification, all transportation is free to our passengers, but camp fees alone run $100 plus, per person. (Have you ever watched a pre-teen or teenager eat?) Unfortunately, these camp fees leave out a lot of kids who just don't have the money. Let's go get those who are being left out.
Churches we have assisted with their camp programs:
Elkview Baptist Church; Elkview, WV Faith Baptist Church; Wichita Falls, TX Grace Baptist Temple; Duncanville, TX Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church; Elkview, WV Hampton Road Baptist Church; DeSoto, TX Waxahachie Bible Church; Waxahachie, TX Calvary Baptist Church of Vernon; Vernon, TX South Ft. Worth Baptist Temple; Ft. Worth, TX Calvary Baptist Church of Duncanville; Duncanville, TX
Some of the camps with whom we have been involved:
Camp El Har; Dallas, TX Pot of Gold; San Antonio, TX Pleasant Island; Elkview, WV (Wyatt was camp director at Pleasant Island for 5 years) Hi View Ranch; Midlothian, TX Liberty University; Lynchburg, VA Camp Chaparral; Wichita Falls, TX Pitchfork Youth Camp; Canadian, OK Riverbend Youth Camp; Glen Rose, TX Latham Springs Baptist Camp; Aquilla, TX Mt. Lebanon Baptist Encampment; Cedar Hill, TX
Our philosophy for a camp program: "If one child goes home unhappy, mistreated, embarrassed, or not spiritually challenged to be all they can be for God, we as adults leaders have failed."
It's about the kids! Not some of them, not most of them, not about as us as workers, it's about ALL the kids God has entrusted to us.
